The Engineering Department of Grantley Adams International Airport Inc., provides maintenance support for
Air Traffic Services (ATS). This support takes the form of technical and civil expertise necessary to sustain safe and efficient air traffic operations. The Engineering Department is sub-divided into several sections and are listed as follows:
(1) Electronics section
(2) Civil section
(3) Electrical section
(4) Mechanical section
The Electronics section provides maintenance to all aeronautical electronic systems presently in service at the Grantley Adams International Airport. These systems include but are not limited to the following:
- Radar equipment
- Navigational aids equipment
- Communications equipment
The Civil section provides engineering and ancillary support for Air Traffic Services. Activities such as maintenance of the runway surface, preservation of the airfield and building maintenance are some of the many services provided.
The Electrical section is ultimately responsible for the electrical supply to electronic systems. Additionally, this section ensures that emergency power supply equipment is available and in serviceable condition. Air-conditioning maintenance also falls under the ambit of this section.
The Mechanical section provides maintenance to vehicles and other mechanical devices used by ATC and the Engineering Department.
There is collaboration between the Engineering Department and ATC in relation to matters of improvement and development of services when necessary.
ATC and the Engineering Department have established a unique relationship that has become symbolic of the high standard of air traffic operations at the G.A.I.A.
